Commuted
President Bush has commuted Scooter Libby's sentence, and quite properly, too -- although he has left in place the fine and the conviction.
Democrats who are tempted to try to make political hay of this decision (and how ludicrous is it to claim that Libby did anything to "compromise national security" when it was Richard Armitage who actually revealed Valerie Plame's name, and it still isn't even clear that she was a covert agent), should be forced to answer this question: How do they feel about the ridiculously lenient plea bargain offered to Sandy Berger -- who provably (and admittedly) lied about what he did when he stole and destroyed classified documents?
And let's not forget Democrat hero (and presidential candidate spouse) Bill Clinton -- who quite obviously lied under oath and obstructed justice.
If Scooter Libby intentionally misled investigators -- and if he deliberately obstructed justice -- then it's wrong. But unlike the Berger and Clinton cases were there was incontrovertible factual evidence of wrongdoing, Libby's alleged crime was "proved" only because a D.C. jury chose to believe a different version of the events than his own account.
For those who are surprised that Judge David Sentelle voted to uphold the district court's determination that Libby should not be allowed to stay out of jail during his appeal, I refer you to this.

Dems/MSM say that since Libby is GOP then he is guilty. BC and SB are Dems so are not guilty.
He is a convicted felon. Bush has not pardoned him of his crimes.
Clinton was guilty of lying in order to cover-up his sexual dalliances.
Libby was guilty of lying in order to cover-up a deliberate White House plan to lie to the American people about Iraqi WMDs and, in the process, broke the law in revealing the name of a covert CIA operative.
Of course, the American people know this, and will respond by abandoning the GOP and conservative ideology generally.
The Libby pardon will be another nail in the GOP coffin. In ten years time you'll realise this and wonder why you didn't take a courageous stand at the time.
Here's a better comparison - Sandy Berger.
SO the last few presidents all had about 400 or so pardons. Clinton seems to have pardoned men whose families made rather large donations to his Presidential Library.
"W" number of Pardons - 0
1 commuted sentence.
And it is public knowledge that Libby did NOT out Ms. Plame. He is guilty of having a poor memory.
One of these days, OSO you're going to do some fact checking.
