Another Blow to "Comparable Worth"

More bad news for the feminist economic grievance caucus. A new study shows that men, in fact, do work as much as women do.

Carol - good debunking of the myth. I do nearly all the market work and a fair amount of the homework (to use the language from the study), so I would echo their findings.

However, both you and the study (I feel) are missing some detail about where the work goes. A major detail is that since the 50's (when Steinem and ERA-NOW crowd were youngsters,) a lot of work has just disappeared by virtue of automation. Way back when, dishwashers, washers and dryers, motorized lawnmowers, and so forth were not available. Now nearly everyone has them.

Also, those of us men who in past eras would have spent some leisure time reading the newspaper now check it online throughout the day. Much bill paying is now done online too.

The upshot is that some of the homework has disappeared; and with the proliferation of machinery, computers, and the internet, many men have been more willing to perform these tasks than the comparable tasks of before.

I'm a lot more willing to "wash dishes" if that means rinsing and putting into the dishwasher and pushing a button, instead of the hand-sink thing in the 50's. Same with clothes - thanks again to Excel, I have a nifty chart for reference on which clothes need which settings.
