Big-Spending Defeatists
So the House Speaker was able to lard enough pork into an appropriations bill to persuade Democrats to vote for a deadline that would signal a limited commitment to Iraq, currently the front line in the war on terror.
The Democrats know that this bill has no chance of becoming law. The Senate will not pass one like it, and the President will veto any timelines that come to his desk.
So their sole significant achievement with this legislation is to embolden our enemies, and demonstrate once again that Democrats are soft on terror -- and defeatist, to boot.
Congratulations. If we lose Iraq, we know squarely where to place the blame.

The Republicans created the mess that is Iraq and have refused to do anything about it. So... the Democrats have to solve it.
BTW - my understanding (and I could be wrong) is that the bill actually provides funds for US troops in Iraq... which means that if Bush vetoes it then war is without money.
Your understanding should be that the funding is contingent on criteria put forth by the cut and runners concerning dates of withdrawal, as well as being pork laden. If Bush vetoes it, then it will be because it's not what Petraus is asking for. The Dems are simply trying to play their game at the expense of the troops. They are just continuing their shameless quest to undermine the Bush admin.
