A Man With Guts
You've gotta love John Howard, Australia's Prime Minister (I've long been a fan).
He's refusing to apologize for having pointed out the obvious -- that Barack Obama's defeat 'n retreat plan for Iraq would be an unmitigated disaster.
As for Obama's heated response to the criticism -- including his willingness to deride Australia's contributions in Iraq -- one has to wonder if this is the way he intends to conduct US "diplomacy" should he win the preidency.

Yep, it's always important to keep throwing good money after bad hoping that if you keep forking out the cash you'll strike the BIG ONE.
Howard's opinion is worthless on this issue anyway. He won't be around to see in the next president whether it is Obama, Guiliani, Clinton or whoever.
Howard has 300 Australian troops in Afghanistan and out 1,400 in Iraq only 160 are combat troops.
It doesn't take much guts when your not really in the fight. Know what I mean keyboard commandos?
When I see the name Obama I think of the cartoon child character Bam Bam. He acts like the child character. He should be like a prophet who set his face like flint instead of acting like a flintstone character. But since Obama is a Dem he acts like a Dem.
Considering Howard wasn't trumpeting his country's contributions, Earth's comments are of little value. What he was referring to, of course, was the importance of our involvement continuing, and the problems our leaving prematurely will surely cause. Don't give the guy crap because he has common sense. That's what Obama did. But then, Earth did as much by using the old, "why don't you enlist" angle with his keyboard commando crack.
I'm not sure what Skribe was talking about, but if it has to do with what limit there is in doing the right thing, many will say there is none. The costs will be much higher if we lose or retreat.
If liberals and RINOs knew when to quit "...throwing good money after bad...," LBJ's Great Society and War on Poverty would not have cost taxpayers several trillion dollars.
Marshall,
How long would you have US forcesstay in Iraq if you were president? If it take all eight years of the next two presidential terms and the Iraqis still have not steppped up would it be time to bring US forces out? What is the breaking point of the Army? 2012? 2015? I have heard they can keep such rotations up for six more years maximum and their combat effectiveness would be degrading as time goes on.
I am advised that all of this will be moot once the US moves into Sadr City where casualty numbers will be high and half of the polling support for Bush will walk away from this folly.
A man commits a "terror" act in Salt Lake City last night and capitalism and democracy just keeps rolling along up there on Terra. Al Qaeda Marshall no matter what John Howard says is in pakistan and could care less who is in the White House they bombed America with the most devatstaing attack in its history with their own airplanes with Bush as the sitting President and tried with Clinton in the White House. And once again with all the billions in stock value lost America coughed, brushed off the dust and kept on trucking. The fear talk is bull.
cav,
Good men do what's right for as long as what's right needs doing. Mature and honorable people understand this.
Actually CE, I think MA plans, to coin a phrase, to fight to the last American.
It's the sort of short-sightedness you often see with problem gamblers. They never know when to cut their losses, give up and go home.
Obama called the Prime Minister of Australia "one of George Bush's allies on the other side of the world".
Does that mean as President, Obama would not recognize Australia as an ally? What about the many other countries on the other side of the world? Can they count on their relationships with the U.S. under an Obama presidency?
Also, Obama says that Australia can't be credited with fighting the "good fight" unless it calls up another 20,000 troops. By his own logic, Obama concedes victory to the terrorists by himself opposing any increased commitment to the good fight.
This was not a good episode for Obama at all. It shows insensitivity and inexperience with foreign policy and diplomacy. It is unbecoming for a presidential candidate to take a demeaning tone with foreign dignitaries.
Very childish!
Marshall, Marshall, Marshall, who defines right in your world where killing for profit is seen as good?
Actually Greg, on this side of the pond it's being touted as a collosal mistake by Howard and he's been put under the hammer by the opposition ever since. Obama's response in comparison is being considered as measured and appropriate and it's been highlighted that the Whitehouse refuses to get involved indicating that even they think Howard did something monumentally stupid and inappropriate. The man is not brave he's an embarrassment and buffoon.
cav,
In our world, right has already been defined. Some wish to redefine it. Mature and honorable men seek to keep it's light shining. In addition, there's a difference between killing for profit, such as what we see in abortion doctors, and fighting to enable more people to be free to make profits. Sensible people understand the difference.
skribe,
What lib comic book did you get that from? Howard's getting hammered alright, but it's by Australian libs as well as Obamaniacs, who are the truly embarrassing ones.
MA, are you aware that Howard is the leader of the Liberal party?
skribe,
I know Blair is. He's getting it from libs in England. The point is that these two guys understand the stakes and are taking heat for acting accordingly. Most of the heat comes from the left.
Marshall,
You are just bubbling truthiness. I find it funny that single party states without opposition like Soviet Russia and North Korea are anathema to you because they do not allow for a nation to become the one party state of one race and one religion that you crave. American politics is tragi-comedy writ large.
So, what you're saying is that you didn't know that Howard led the Liberals. You just keep getting it wrong, MA.
cav,
You'll just have to elaborate on that last goofy post. Are you saying I'm a racist? That I want a theocracy? Explain yourself child.
