Good Job, Senate Repubs

At least for now, Senate Republicans have staved off the voices of retreat 'n defeat.

Republicans Susan Collins and Norm Coleman belong in the Hall of Shame for voting to allow the retreat 'n defeat motion to go forward. And where, exactly, were Republicans John McCain and Mel Martinez, who didn't vote either way?

Obviously after all the testimony from the Generals, the Republicans would rather filibuster Senate debate on the war than risk hitching a ride on Bush's "surge" wagon.

Americans are reminded that the republican Senators are those left over rubber-stampers that sent the troops to their war but then refused to debate policy and provide oversight. The real cowards are the fillibusters.

How 'bout my man, McConnell!

With two exceptions, he kept the Republicans in line and scared away two others that may have been willing to cross over.

This isssue is far more serious than simple partisan politics. But it seems the Democrats abandoned the idea of "what's good for the people" a long time ago in favor of "what's politically advantageous for Democrats".

This vote will be looked at time and again as proof that the Republican Party is the only party in the United States that seriously wants to defeat the enemies of the United States.

Democrats will regret the day they officially voted as a Party to not only surrender, but to aid the enemy while our troops are engaged in battle.

Shame on them all!

So in a vote that McCain himself labled a "No Confidence" vote in the Senate, the supposedly steadfast supporter of the President's policy in Iraq and of our military could not find it within himself to cast a vote of confidence!
