The Ethical Pelosi Congress

Democrat Rep. William Jefferson -- he of the $90,000 in the freezer -- has won reelection, easily.

Well, given that some Democrats are already forgetting their ethics campaign promises, no doubt he'll feel more comfortable back in Congress than he should.

So to Wile E Coyote, corruption is determined by when you commit your crime. Were not all these saintly Dems in the service of the public when they committed their crimes? Tell me you were joking.

The difference between the political parties lies not in "ethics" or "values". The difference lies in the common folk who are in their millions willing to follow polarizing arguments that are brought forth by paid providers of such rattle trap.

This is all about money. Lobbying money, campaign contributions, travel to far away luxurious destinations. The way American government is run today and has been for many decades is equal to foxes guarding hen houses.

And finally, Cliff, my sad, misguided friend, since I am a professional journalist and not merely someone who supoorts a political party and wishes to be "right" no matter destructive that being "right" may be for the country Murtha was never indicted for anything nor did he ever take a bribe.

Hastings was charged and tried for bribery and racketeering and not convicted. Then in 1988 a Democratic House brought forth articles of impeachment by a vote of 3 against vice 413 for. The Speaker Elect, House Majority Leader-Elect, and the incoming Ways and Means Committee Chairman all voted for the articles and they were sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee for trial rather than the full Senate. Hasings was roundly convicted.

Jefferson has not been indicted. To my untrained legal eyes he looks guilty as sin, so to speak. The wire recordings, the video, the cash looks bad for Dollar Bill and I thinik he should resign. Period.

Delay, unlike Jefferson has been indicted and did resign which was a both good thing for politics in Washington as DeLay is the worst type of person who rises to a position of political power. See Lord Action for an explanation. DeLay too looks guilty as sin but once again I will allow the courts to do their job.

Expect conviction for DeLay if he is too proud to deal and a certain indictment forthcoming in january from the Feds as a post Holiday gift for Dollar Bill Jefferson.

Facts are such silly things aren't they Cliff?

Delay only has accusations but NOTHING that [indicts] him.

Well a political operator in Texas did indict DeLay, but that proves nothing. In fact, I'd be willing to bet the matter won't even go to trial. Merely indicting DeLay was sufficient to get him out of the GOP leadership.

I recall a recent offering at some blog or other I visit that had Murtha discussing terms of a bribe, or what would be required for him to act. No actual bribe took place, but it does present him as simply waiting for a better offer. There's a fact for ya. I would caution you, Frederick, against holding up "professional journalist" as creds that are beyond reproach. There are many in your profession that have sullied it too much for the average Joe.

You also seem to have backwards whether the issue comes from the citizenry first and then the politicians pander accordingly, or if the politicians suggest what is or should be important to the population. I believe it is the first. "I" believe abortion is wrong. "I" believe traditional marriage should be protected. "I" believe victory in Iraq is important, necessary and do-able. "I" believe in a number of things of which the pols of the GOP seem to be aligned.

I don't even expect it to go to trial. I don't think Earle even expects to win at trial. Do you have any actual information regarding the case, O Great Professional Journalist?
