A New Vote on ANWR

Good news -- the House Republicans are going to revote on ANWR. It's about time.

Step 1. Make sure Americans understand that drilling can be conducted with minimal harm to the environment.

Step 2. Ask why the Democrats are refusing to authorize the drilling, which has the dual benefit of making us less dependent on foreign oil and lowers the price of gasoline.

The amount of dependence upon foreign oil that ANWR will reduce is negligible. The amount of oil held in ANWR is very small compared to the amount of oil America consumes every year.

The best alternative is to reduce the demand for oil.

Heck yes. Inconvencing a few Caribau is much more important than our economy?

Lets ALL reduce the dependance on oil tomorrow - Who is going to stop by and drive me to my class? especially the one that gets out at 9:15?

We al;l know that it was the Republicans in the congress back in 1789 that started this incredible loss of our freeedoms!

it's the conventional MSM spewage that there isn't enough to even bother, and that it will hurt the land (of no use).

Both are untrue. The Human Beings that live near there would welcome it, and every time the left says the environment will be wrecked, it does the opposite. Caribou herds have increased when environmentalists said the would decline.

The "conservative" estimate is something like 1 Million barrels/day for 10 years...which is only about what, 5% of our consumption...let's see, if my math is correct, 5% is more than 0%...

It does make a difference.

US Oil consumption: 20.03 million barrels per day. (2003 figure)

Amount of recoverable oil in ANWR: 10.4 billion barrels.

Therefore, ANWR can supply around 519 days of America's 2003 consumption figure.

Problems:

1) America has increased its demand since 2003.

2) Exploitation of the 10.4 billion barrels will take 20-30 years to fully recover. This is due to "Hubbert's Peak" coming into effect.

Result: ANWR makes hardly a dent.
