A Chilling Wake-Up Call
The incomparable Mark Steyn lays out in today's Wall Street Journal why "[m]uch of what we loosely call the Western world will not survive this century, and much of it will effectively disappear within our lifetimes, including many if not most Western European countries."
He's right -- if we don't somehow muster the civilizational confidence to do something about it (what, of course, is considerably less clear -- but encouraging reproduction would be an excellent start).
The issue is akin to the questions I asked here last week. Does, in fact, a culture that lacks the self-confidence to defend itself even deserve to survive?

What values today would be supported like the old values our parents fought to defend?
These are cold hard facts, so I'm not surprised that Twister nor Duke have trolled in a comment. And stackja is absolutely correct. Would anyone fight hard to protect the right for Brittany Spears to dress like a slut? Does America give a flip about the future anymore? Decadence dancing is where we've gone. But at least there's hope in the red states.
