Dim, Dim, Dim

If Arlen Specter is really hinting that he'd subpoena James Dobson, some of his Senate colleagues had better advise him to think twice. It's one thing for Democrats like Ken Salazar or Pat Leahy to behave that way -- quite another for Republicans to do so.

Of course evangelicals like Dr. Dobson annoy the life out of pro-choice "moderates" like Arlen Specter. But they also allow him to enjoy the post of Judiciary Committee Chairman because his party's in the majority.

No, it's not like the Religious Right will vote for a Democrat if the Republicans mistreat them. But they will stay home -- even as it is, it's a real matter of debate within some religious right communities whether they should be engaging in politics at all.

Even as everyone enjoys having their say about Harriet Miers, her faith, and "what Dr. Dobson knew and when he knew it" -- be aware. If the Religious Right goes, Republican electoral dominance goes with them.

The Religious Right is already going...and close to gone. The things I'm reading and hearing from my friends (not the "beltway elite" of the "intellectual priesthood", but ordinary committed Christians) make 2006 a real question mark in my mind. I think President Bush may have done a tremendous amount of damage to his base...and the chickens may well come home to roost about 13 months from now.

I think the religious right are in agreement with the president: pick someone you know well while in politics/Washington, because you can't trust too many down there. They know that because of the dippy gang of 14 and democratic kooks we are where we are, not because of the president. We don't have the votes from our own frikin' party. I blame that on not just ourselves as voters, but these commentators who seem to have all the answers: Will, Kristol, etc...THEY haven't done THEIR JOBS adequately of helping turn public opinion in the right direction. Religious right have hung in tough before, and this is no exception. They are keen on knowing when "soft bigotry" of religion is being played. Arlen Spector is playing that card but it is unwise.

Get your act together, George Will, Bill Kristol, and others of like-mindedness....you get paid big bucks to help get the conservative word out and you wrongly assummed that one great election meant that the fight was almost over...Senators are very stubborn and self-righteous people. You job is not done on exposing this. Get with it, conservative commentators---fight the right fight! You need to be much better communicators---and what do we get? The whine and moaning and pointing fingers at the best hope for our country-George Bush---it could have been Kerry----Hillary is having a FABULOUS time of watching you guys!!!

So the President'c chief political strategist calls the most revered Dobson about the Harriet Miers nomination. Later, in contrast to the majority of conservative commentators the same Doctor Dobson announces that he has reasons that he is not at liberty to discuss and that he probably shouldn't be privy to for supporting Harriet Miers.

Guess what? If James Dobson is speaking about information given to him by the White House, than the Senate does have a right to have that information. How in the world can you possibly argue the opposite?

Mr Twister:

Then everyone should have privy to Specter, Reid, and all the other libs and their notes/phonecalls/meetings with NARAL/lawyers/lobbyists and the other wackos too.
