Cultural Communists
If you can't beat 'em, ban 'em.
That, apparently, is the approach of the UN cultural agency, UNESCO. Siding with France against the United States (another big surprise!), most of UNESCO's 190 member countries will probably vote to codify, on a global level, the longtime French policy of imposing quotas on American films and music.
Wonder how that sits with the left-wing, U.N.-loving "creative community" in Hollywood and New York.

Hollywood will use subtitles in French for their English speaking audiences, the French will have French subtitles for their English speaking audiences, not English subtitles that would be too accommodating, and Hollywood will win by pretending to be culturally sensitive.
Another fascinating question (to me) is how eye-to-eye American conservatives will now see with the French. I'm sure that some of us would impose quotas on 50 Cent or the like if we could.
