Sauce for the Goose . . .?

The Democrats' strategy of scandal-mongering might be set back a bit by this news -- that federal grants arranged by Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) are at the center of a scandal that led to the indictment this week of two Las Vegas pastors.

Or then again, maybe it won't. Questions about the Reid grants could go right down the MSM memory hole, along with Schumergate, the whole Air America funny money debacle, and the sordid truth about the views of Cindy Sheehan.

Carol -

The facts...

Reid secured the earmark for a worthwhile program

It was a one time earmark

Like with all earmarks, Reid sets aside the money for a specific project

However, the money is administered by the granting agency—in this case, the Department of Justice

It is the responsibility of the granting Department to administer the grant, release the funds, and ensure the grantee is in compliance with the stipulation of the grant and federal regulations

Some perspective. Does anyone remember that check-writing scandal in the House a few years back? It was very bad for a few members (though not evidently for representative-now-senator Boxer), but had no effect on hardly anyone else, repub or dem, house or no house.

I liken this to that. Delay may be done for or he may not be. But any extrapolation from this to woes on the GOP in general - or problems from Reid to the Democrats - is highly premature at best.

This was in 1994, and the coupling of this low-level ethics problem with the public corruption of Dan Rostenkowski was one of the primary reasons that the Democrats lost control of the US House of Representatives. I think this is a great analogy with 2006.
